28/4/11 to 1305011 - Last 2 weeks in NZ (Leaving Auckland and the South Island)

Hi guys and welcome,

this is our first attempt at a blog so bare with us while we iron out the creases etc.

So the time came to say goodbye to Auckland and all of the great friends we had made whilst living in the city, it was a very hard time and we do not like saying goodbyes but we are excited about what lies ahead.

Bridger came to stay with us for the last few days in Auckland before we headed to the South Island to start our adventure. In the last few days Leanne and Bridger went to the Domain, the museum and did the Sky Walk around the top of the Auckland Sky Tower.
On the 28/4/11 Andy and Sophie kindly drove us to the airport and we said the last of our goodbyes. We caught the flight to Christchurch and picked up our van/motor home from Kea Campers (who are awesome and we would highly recommend.

I will just highlight the main things we did in the South Island as it would take me too long to list 2 weeks activities in 1 post and the pictures will give you a clearer idea anyway.

So the places included Kaikoura, Blenheim, Picton, Nelson, Abel Tasmin National Park, Buller Gorge, Greymouth, Hokitika, Franz Josef, Fox, Haast, Mount Aspiring National Park, Wanaka, Arrowtown, Queenstown, Athol, Lake Gunn, Milford Sound, Te Anau, Twizel, Mount Cook, Lake Tekapo, Geraldine, Ashburton, Hamner Springs and back to Christchurch.

Along the way we camped between the sea and mountains, saw wild seal colonies, visited wineries, walked part of the Abel Tasman National park and travelled on a water taxi, where attacked by sand flies!, stopped off at indepenent breweries, walked across the Buller Gorge, changed motor homes half way in Greymouth, hand fed and touched GIANT freshwater eels, walked on the Franz Josef Glacier, saw the great southern lakes, had an amazing time in Queenstown including the Gondola and Luge, had an overnight cruise on Milford Sound and saw more wild seals, visited the Te Anau glow worm caves, camped at Mount Cook (it was cold) went to the church at Lake Tekapo, went to the hot water pools at Hamner Springs and went horse riding.

So as you can see it was an action packed couple of weeks! we dropped the van off on the 13/5/11 and flew back to Auckland to catch our connecting flight.

Next stop Kuala Lumpur

lots of love David and Leanne :)
